About Holy Family Institute

In the rich tradition of Catholic social teaching and rooted in the heritage of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, we empower children and families to lead responsible lives and develop healthy and meaningful relationships built on faith, hope and love.

Founded in 1900 by the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, Holy Family Institute (HFI) is a leader in providing a comprehensive, integrated array of educational and social services to at-risk youth and families in our communities. Guided by a mission to empower children and their families to lead responsible lives and develop healthy, meaningful relationships built on faith, hope and love, HFI’s philosophy is based on the belief that the family is central to the holistic development of the child. This perspective leads HFI to assist families struggling with abuse, behavioral and emotional issues, learning disorders and other debilitating problems to overcome barriers and provide an environment conducive to the well being of all family members.

Operating in the communities of Allegheny, Armstrong, Indiana and Washington Counties, Pennsylvanic, HFI offers residential services, specialized schools, youth workforce development, substance abuse and addiction counseling, in-home services, mental health counseling services and utility assistance programs. In fiscal year 2010-2011, Holy Family served over 9,000 households, making HFI one of the largest providers of in-home family services in Allegheny and Armstrong counties in Pennsylvania.
