LACEE H.
July 25th
Thank you for helping me celebrate my birthday by acknowledging that the need of these local, national and international charities outweighs my own. I hope you will consider a gift to one of these organizations whose work impacts our world.
Charities Lacee is Supporting
I was so inspired after reading Mountains Beyond Mountains (A book that details the life of the founder Paul Farmer). PIH is a unique organization in that they make every effort to have their establishment in areas wreaked by catastrophe (man-made and not) as natural as possible.
They do a lot by not only providing sorely needed medical care, but they take the time to understand the needs of the community that they serve. Their mission statement is "not just medical, it's moral", and "Just as we would do if a member of our own family—or we ourselves—were ill" Their presence in Haiti after the earthquake was unshakeable and deeply rooted in years of service and camaraderie that they have had throughout the decade. I put a lot of faith and hope in this organization, and I know that their best work is yet to come.

I first heard of PIH in reading the book Mountains Beyond Mountains. Their attitude reminds me of my mother's approach to care-taking; doing "whatever it takes". PIH cares for the ill around the world "Just as we would do if a member of our own family - or we ourselves, were ill".
EAC's mission
To Educate, to Advocate and to Celebrate the arts in Emporia and our seven-county service area.
We Believe...
We believe the Emporia Arts Council is important to Emporia and the region because the arts create a vibrant, dynamic community. EAC considers and incorporates the following belief statement in all their activities:
We believe a dynamic EAC expands the vision and values of children and families.
We believe a dynamic EAC increases and strengthens our sense of community and neighborhoods.
We believe a dynamic EAC enhances the educational opportunities of children.
We believe a dynamic EAC influences entrepreneurship, motivates the young, and helps business people think "outside the box."
Art spurs creativity and a sense of adventure. In an age when competition dominates all arenas of business, the arts serve to challenge common thought and practice, opening new doors to solve old problems.

I interned for the Emporia Arts Council last summer and got to experience first hand how passionate the staff is about educating, advocating and celebrating the arts. An arts center is a crucial element to a thriving community and now, more than ever they can use your support. I hope you will consider a gift to the Emporia Arts Council or your own local arts center.

Since my roommate began working in animal welfare, this cause has become really important to me. There are a lot of issues that the ASPCA works with, but on a most basic level I encourage you to adopt your next four-legged friend from a shelter and always spay/neuter your pets.
