Charities Erin is Supporting
Gentle Giants is a non-profit rescue in Maryland. They are dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, retraining, and rehoming of draft horses at risk for slaughter (in Mexico or Canada, where they are treated in a way that is absolutely unacceptable and inhumane), or neglect and abuse.

I received their mailing and was struck by the treatment of horses sent to slaughter. This is a solid organization that deserves a lot of help!
The Maryland SPCA is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to helping animals and people. Pet adoption center, free and low-cost spay/neuter clinic, volunteer programs, dog training, behavior advice, events, classes and lots more!
The Maryland SPCA improves the lives of pets and people in the community. They receive no government operating funds. They depend upon local donations to make a difference in the lives of animals.
The Humane Society of the United States is the nation's largest and most effective animal protection organization

I like the Humane Society because they accept only neglected and abused animals that require rehabilitation. ASPCA, which also does a great job, accepts all animals. I think the Human Society needs the most support.
I just met our friend's dog Tela, who had been abused when she arrived at the Humane Society over a year ago. She was such a sweetheart and it made me very happy to know that the Human Society found her a loving home with my friends.
