About Little Children of the World

Little Children of the World (LCW) is a 501c3 charity whose goal is to help poverty-stricken children in the Philippines and Haiti. Its focus is to identify street children and at-risk youth (orphans, the handicapped, the desperately poor), and to provide them with school uniforms, supplies, shoes, books, and transportation to allow them to go to school instead of begging on the streets. Other aspects of LCW include daily soup kitchens, a nutrition program for malnourished children, annual physical exams for children and their parents, skills training courses for women to start their own businesses, community service projects within each community, and college scholarships for sponsored children who wish to become leaders in their communities.

Why I Chose Little Children of the World

Hello to all & thanks for reading.

Most of you know all about Little Children because you've heard me talk about it for five years now! But for those who haven't, please know that this is a great charity that focuses on getting street children, orphans, and those who have been abused, into safe homes and back in school. Education is the way to break the cycle of poverty, and LCW works to that aim. Over 500 children are sponsored currently, and over 100 have graduated college to become leaders in their communities already!

There are multiple aspects of LCW, but the one closest to my heart is the health & handicapped program. When I first spent time in the Philippines in 2007, there were 90+ children from LCW that met WHO criteria for starvation; when we went last year, there were only about 10 (and all of those children were being enrolled in the malnutrition program to receive supplemental vitamins and nutrition to get that number down to zero!) Other children are able to receive life-saving and life-changing surgeries through the Rotary Club and Operation Smile. And there are so many other great things that have been done, but I won't make you read all about them now. Here's a video instead (kinda long, just watch the first few mins if you have short attention span) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2Q11nEvwzY&feature=player_embedded#!
